Veterans Ceremony, Chili Spill this weekend at BRC

The 16th Annual Texana Chili Spill will be held November 10-12 at the Brackenridge Recreation Complex Main Event Center, sponsored by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority and the Jackson County Go-Texan Committee.
    This year’s event will include a Veterans Ceremony, an Appreciation Dinner sponsored by HEB, and a fireworks display sponsored by Whataburger on Thursday, Nov. 10 beginning at 5 p.m. All veterans, family and friends are invited to the dinner.
    Friday’s events include salsa, sausage, and margarita competition and the Go-Texan Dutch Oven Dessert Cook-off. 
    “Join us Saturday for the chili, seafood gumbo, and bean cook-off, along with shopping at the Texana Market, Helicopter Rides, and a Kids Zone with fun inflatables, face painting, nature exhibits, and much more,” said Cammie Pearson, recreation manager at the BRC. “This year we will have special visitors in the Kids Zone to include Paw Patrol, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There also will be a yummy variety of food, drink, and snack vendors.”  
    The Jackson County Go-Texan Committee will also host its annual barbecue cook-off and horseshoe and washer tournament. The winning team with this year’s first place brisket will receive a whopping $3,000 in cash prize money! 
    “DJ Mark Lopez will be spinning your favorite tunes starting on Friday night and throughout the event on Saturday,” Pearson said. “You can bet he is sure to get the party rocking!”
    Parking fee for the weekend is only $5 per vehicle so load up the whole group and join us for a weekend of good food and plenty of fun.
