Yoakum wins out against the Cobras

By Michael Brooks

The Yoakum Bulldogs defeated the Industrial Cobras 56-14 in Yoakum.

The Cobra defense held strong until the final play of the first quarter, when Bulldog Josh Moore broke out for a 37 yard touchdown run. After the extra point was good, Yoakum led 7-0.

Industrial's offense got a drive going in the second quarter. On a fourth and two, Aaron Rosas found a small hole and broke through for what appeared to be a five yard gain and another first down to keep the Cobras drive going, but Rosas was ruled down inches short of a first down.

As the "boos" rained down from the visiting side, Yoakum took over on downs, and on their first play after the turnover, Bulldog Bryson Hagan found Jordan Moore for a 40 yard touchdown pass. Following the extra point, the Bulldogs lead the Cobras 14-0.

In the second, Hagan found Josh Moore for a 62 yard touchdown pass and gave the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead they carried into halftime.

The Bulldogs came out firing in again in the third quarter when Tyron Brooks broke free for a 19 yard touchdown run, giving the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead. Josh Moore continued it when he scooped up a fumble and returned it 61 yards to further the lead to 35 points.

After a long interception return, Brooks once again found the end zone with an eight yard touchdown run. This gave Yoakum a 42-0 lead they took into the final quarter.

Cobra Blayne Moreland, moving over to play halfback for the first time, ran the ball effectively throughout the fourth quarter. Moreland scored on a two yard run to give Industrial their first seven points of the game.

But the Bulldogs got those seven points back immediately when Brooks returned the ensuing kickoff 81 yards for another Yoakum touchdown, renewing their lead to 49-7.

Moreland, again rumbling through the defense, capped the Cobras' next drive with a one yard touchdown run.

Montreal Jones finished off Yoakum's final drive of the night with a 27 yard touchdown run and the final score.

Industrial will face Palacios in Vanderbilt next Friday for their final game of the season, and a chance to finish at .500. This loss dropped their record to 4-5.
