Van Vleck with the upset over Edna

By Millie Diaz

What a game! It all boiled down to the last quarter in the football game tonight between Edna and Van Vleck at the Edna Cowboy stadium.

Edna started their game strong enough, scoring three touchdowns before halftime, and Van Vleck scored twice. Edna led 21-14.

The Leopards seemed to find their footing in the third quarter, even after Cowboy Cade Orsak scored at the start of the third. Van Vleck's Zeyvaunte Easton scored two touchdowns without any points after, shortening Edna's lead greatly. The 'Boys only led by two points, 28-26, by the end of the third quarter.

With 9:53 left in the game, Edna took over at the 28-yard line. Kenny Haynes carried the ball to right outside the end zone, and Landon O'Connor kept the ball to score a touchdown in the next play plus the point after, widening the Cowboy lead to 35-26.

Ronaldo Saenz's kick was short in the next drive, and the Leopards used it to creep towards Edna's end zone. Within two minutes Van Vleck responded with their own touchdown with 7:03 left in the third and another two-point conversion.

Edna led by only one point, 35-34, and were unable to find the end zone in their next drive. Van Vleck, however, did not have the same problem. With 3:26 left in the game, Leopard Darius Williams not only scored another touchdown, but Van Vleck also earned a two-point conversion instead of a PAT, giving them the lead for the first time in the game.

The final score was 42-35, Van Vleck. The loss brings Edna to 2-1 for district play, and 2-2 for Van Vleck.
