Ganado keeps Lions in their cage

By Hannah Janssen

After last week's brutal loss, the Indians won 37-0 against the Kenedy Lions.

The Indians' first points came with a 98 yard touchdown run by Matthew Sterling. In the second quarter, the Indians got two more points with the safety; when the Lions went to punt, Toby Ortiz was there with a tackle in the end zone.

Ganado continued to score in the first half with the quarterback keep by Michael-Douglas Maresh and a touchdown pass to Garrett McCann. McCann also had a remarkable catch before his touchdown- fully outstretched and caught the 37 yard pass with his fingertips. The first half ended 27-0.

The offense continued to drive in the second half. After recovering a Lion fumble, Ganado drove down the field, relying heavily on Sterling and McCann, not to mention a difficult pass to Michael Garza. McCann went on to score on that drive. Three minutes later, the offense came out again, and scored in the second play with a run by Sterling, the score 37-0, where it stayed after a scoreless fourth quarter.

The Indian defense made significant contributions. Christian Palacios, Malcolm Chaisson, and McCann all had successful nights, racking up a great number of tackles. Michael Malek and Sterling also had a big hand in holding the Lions back. With the tackles, sacks, and fumble recoveries, Kenedy made next to no progress.

With this win, Ganado has a district record of 1-1, and they play Weimar next week. Weimar is currently 0-2 in district. The game will be in Weimar at 7:30.
