Indians shut out by Bobcats

By Hannah Janssen

The Ganado Indians were shut-out 62-0 against the 2015 State Finalists Refugio Bobcats in the first district game of the season.
Refugio returned the ball for a touchdown right as the clock began its countdown. With the score 7-0 in the first couple minutes, momentum was on Refugio's side. When they did have the ball, Ganado's offense tried to gain yards with runs by seniors Matthew Sterling and Garrett McCann. In fact, there were few mistakes made; Refugio's size proved to be tough competition. Any time Ganado tried to run the ball, they were soon stopped, and quarterback Michael-Douglas Maresh had a few incompletions and a mid-game interception. Few first downs were made, but they weren't totally nonexistent. McCann had some successful carries, including a faked punt that ran into Bobcat territory, giving the Indians some success.
On defense, Ganado had few mistakes as well, but once again, the size and skill set of Refugio's players proved to be a challenge. As the score suggests, the Bobcats took the ball to the end zone repeatedly. However, the Ganado defense did have its moments. Freshman Gabe Aguilar recovered a fumble, rallying the Indians. Malcom Chaisson and other made significant tackles.
Next week, the Indians will face the Kenedy Lions next week at home, with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m.
