Comanches versus Maidens

By Millie Diaz

The Shiner Comanches traveled to Ganado Tuesday night and won three sets in a row to Maiden volleyball, despite a few referee calls and confusion.

Scores for the three sets were 25-15, 25-16 and 25-13.

Desiree Nitch, Shiner's head coach, said the team needed to focus tonight on their game so they would be prepared for other teams deeper into district play.

"It's always about serve/receive and we have to serve tough, because I think it's going to be key for the rest of our season."

Shiner appeared to be ready at the court today, but the Maidens showed they have been gaining some ground in the form of communication and spirit. After coming off winning two games last week, Ganado seemed to be cooler under pressure and getting underneath the ball to start some good plays.

Both Maidens Reyna Gonzales and Nicole Ressman agreed their team has increased their talking immensely.

"We've been working on getting along with our team more with team bonding," said Gonzales.

"At the beginning of the season it was bad, but we're getting the hang of it," Ressman smiled.

Lady Comanches Lauren Schuette led her team with 13 kills, three aces and seven digs, and Mackinly Pilat had four kills and 13 digs.

Maidens Cheyenne Galindo had six kills and four blocks, Laynee Hyden had six kills, Ressman with nine assists and Gonzales with six assists.
