Indians clip the Bluejays

By Millie Diaz

Indian Malcolm Chaisson executed tackles galore in the 27-6 win against Snook tonight at the Ganado stadium. It was clear Michael-Douglas Maresh as quarterback, Garrett McCann and Matthew Sterling also worked hard to help pull off the team win.

The Bluejays kicked off the game, and Sterling was able to get two first downs quickly. Ganado lost a yard, then had a couple of tries before McCann was able to carry it inside on the 15-yard line. He pushed a little farther and connected with Matt Bridges for the first touchdown and a good PAT with 7:22 left in the first quarter.

Using an I-formation, Snook was about to get a first down as well, but not without stops from Bridges. Snook switched it up and split their backfield, but Chaisson answered with a hearty stop at the 27-yard line. In the next play Chaisson did it again.

The ball was at the cusp of Bluejay territory by this time, and Indians were able to pull out a takeover. The Bluejays though, began to read Ganado a bit better. In the next play Maresh threw a tight pass, but McCann fumbled. Bridges was set up to punt, but he kept the ball and ran, unable to make a first down.

The Indians held onto their touchdown lead into the second quarter, then added to it. Sterling scored at the 5:14 mark, while Juan Almeda made the PAT.

In the drive following, it was clear Snook was ready to find the end zone. Their players became more vocal and it may have caused more mistakes than they were wanting, but not without a touchdown of their own with 40 seconds left in the first half. Their PAT was incomplete though, bringing the score to 14-6, Indians.

Ganado scored again in the third quarter despite some tension within the team with a quarterback keeper from Maresh with 2:04 left. The PAT was also good, and the Indians led 21-6.

It wasn't long before Ganado was able to takeover on downs soon after. With 23 seconds in the third, McCann was able to score. At the punt, a false start was made by the Indians and brought them back for a 25-yard field goal instead. But Bridges didn't snap the ball, instead keeping it. He was stopped by Bluejay #1 Jamarion Flowers.

Ganado led the game 27-6, and did what they could to run out the clock and prevent Snook from scoring more. Chaisson stepped in again and made more tackles the keep the Bluejays at bay, along with Bridges, Mata, Christian Palacios and Ben Ramsey. Snook tried to do more, but it only led them to mistakes and penalties, thus ending the game.
