Indians trap Panthers in their own cage

By Hannah Janssen

The Ganado Indians traveled to Danbury to face the Panthers in week four of non-district play, and in a late game comeback won 21-6 after a rough start.
“I think for us right now, we’re young and inexperienced, so in the first half, we were just frustrated,” said Defensive Coordinator Johny Lesak. “In the second half, we started to piece some things together, and a whole lot went right for us. I think that’s really great for us as a team, because we grew up together tonight as a team. Coming together as a group is big.”
Ganado received the ball on the kick-off, but couldn’t make any gains. With an unsuccessful running game, two incomplete passes, and a fumble by senior running back Matthew Sterling, the first quarter wasn’t looking up for the Indians, and the Panthers were quick to take advantage.
Carries by seniors Kyler Ward and Jacob Ainworth gained many yards, as well as runs by senior quarterback Colby Mitchell. Mitchell also had an accurate passing game early on, nailing a 75-yard touchdown pass to Ainworth to get them on the board. Their two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, and with 56 seconds remaining in the first quarter, the Panthers were up 6-0.
