Defense was a positive for Cowboys against #1 team

By Millie Diaz

In facing No. 1 ranked Class 2A Refugio, Edna could not corral the Bobcats in a 37-0 loss at Cowboy Memorial Stadium Friday. The numbers, not to mention the Cowboy spirit, were low.
Senior offensive lineman Wyatt Neuman motivated his team directly after the game in the huddle, asking of them not to turn on each other.
“We’re in a situation where it looks like we’ve got nothing good going on. If we ever think that way and accept that, we will never win. The minute you turn on your teammates, as soon as you go sour, we don’t stand a chance. We stay together, we still have a team.”
Refugio only allowed three first downs and 33 rushing yards for Edna, and the Cowboys could not complete any passes.
There is a bright side to the hard loss though. Both Edna Head Coach Huey Chancellor and Defensive Coordinator Craig Nairn commented the Edna defense played their best night so far in the 2016 season.
