Cobras clipped Flyer’s wings, bring record to 4-0

By Paul Harrison

So they won ugly with a final 28-20 score. The Industrial Cobras were ready show their worth when they visited the St. Joseph Flyers at Patti Waelder Stadium in Victoria on Sept. 16. Five turnovers and 21 penalties between the two teams did nearly as much damage as the defenses.
The Cobra and Flyer defenses traded turns taking chunks out of the offense for most of the first quarter. After forcing St. Joe to punt on the opening possession, Industrial crossed midfield behind 9- and 10-yard runs by Aaron Rosas and Avery Milner, with a 15-yard Milner catch putting the ball at the Flyer 45. A pair of penalties derailed the drive, forcing  the punt.
St. Joe began the drive on a blocking penalty. Collin Smith and Dylan Hempel hit the Flyer ball carrier at the line for no gain on second down.  Zach Mendoza drilled the St. Joe quarterback for a sack to force a punt. The snap was fumbled on the punt, and the Cobras came up with the ball at the opposing 5-yard line, first-and-goal as the first quarter ended.
Milner opened the second quarter with a score on a 5-yard pitch, putting Industrial up 7-0 with Alberto Pineda's kick. Pineda went 4-for-4 on extra point kicks.
