A Quick Cobra Three

By Millie Diaz

In a clean three-set match, Cobras took their first district win against Tidehaven, 25-6, 25-6 and 25-8.

"Tidehaven kept us with us tonight," Savhannah Kitchens said.

The Tigerettes went after every ball, but were no match for Industrial tonight, as the girls showed they were a well-oiled team with heavy yet accurate kills from outside hitter Kitchens and sneaky, careful moves from Maddison Heibel. Both helped their team score runs consistently to make the night a smooth win.

Heibel said she has leaned on her mental game more than her physical this season to help her read the court and find the holes in the opposing team, something she has learning from Cobra Coach Jenna Treybig and her club volleyball coaches.

"I watch and think about what the other side is doing and not just pay attention to what we're doing," the setter said. "It's about watching them and do what they least expect."

Tidehaven's Head Coach, Brittany Stuive said her team showed improvement in their passing tonight, although the score didn't convey that.

"We definitely knew they (Cobras) were a hitting team," Stuive said. "We tried our best to prepare for them, but we weren't ready."

Intense digs and dives were executed by libero Skylar Lenamon and net blocking by middle blocker Joy Scroeder and outside/left back player Brooke Williams.

Cobras will travel to Victoria on Friday, Sept. 16 to play in a non-district match against St. Joseph.
