Cowboys down the Eagles

The Edna Cowboys start their season out with a win at home against the Luling Eagles, 34-25.  Both Cowboys defense and Eagles defense came out very strong forcing several three and outs.  Luling put the first points on the board with 5:41 left in the first making the score Luling 7, Edna 0.  The Cowboys answered back when runningback Kenny Haynes ran in for the Cowboy touchdown with just 25 seconds left in the first.  Extra point was good by Ronaldo Saenz making the score 7-7.  The second quarter yeilded another score for Edna, when runningback Deion Callis ran in for the touchdown with 8:27 left in the half.  Extra point was good by Saenz and Cowboys took the lead 14-7.  The Eagles answered quickly with a touchdown run to make the halftime score 14-13, Cowboys on top.

Luling recieved the second half kick off, but the Cowboys defense stood strong.  Edna ‘back Haynes ran in for his second score of the night with 3:16 left in the third.  Extra point was good by Saenz increasing the Cowboys’ lead to 21-13.  To start the final quarter of play, the Eagles wasted little time scoring on a pass with 11:12 left in the game. The two-point try was no good and the Cowboys kept the lead 21-19.  Cowboys runner Callis found the endzone for his second score of the night.  The extra point try was good by Saenz making the score 28-19 with 9:53 left. Cowboy quarterback Landon O'Connor ran in for the final score with 4:59 left, making the score 34-19.  Saenz tacked on the final point for Edna, 35-19.  Luling did not give up easily as they would score one last time.  The two-point try was no good, making the final score Edna Cowboys 34, Luling Eagles 25.

The Cowboys take the week of Sept. 2 off then travel to East Bernard Sept. 9, kickoff off 7:30.
