Lon Drushel

Lon Ransom Drushel, 93, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016. He was born in Edna, Texas on October 11, 1922, to the late Solomon Gilbert and Margaret Melissa Haley Drushel. In addition to his late parents, he is predeceased, by his wife, Ellen Henry Drushel.He is survived by four children, Lon R. Drushel Jr., S. Henry Drushel and his wife Lois, Margaret D. McClamroch and husband Jim, Carol D. Arter and husband Jim.

He was known as “Grandaddy” to Kyle Drushel, Molly Drushel, Haley Sheppard and husband Branch, Caitlin Tew, Sarah A. Moses and husband Edward. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Reid, Jackson, and Ellen Sheppard.Loving the outdoors he learned to hunt and fish at an early age and continued with these activities throughout his life passing on these skills to his children and grandchildren.

Always with a mind for business, he started his first at the age of 10.

He and his lifelong friend and first business partner Callaway Vance sold snow cones on Saturdays in downtown Edna

 

After graduating from Edna High School he attended The University of Texas. Before earning his degree, WWWII broke out, and he joined the Army Air Corp. Stationed at Marfa he was instructor pilot to students of the UC-78 aircraft. After completing his military service Lon returned to Edna and began his first ranching experience. He married Ellen Louise Henry on February 15, 1947.

 

Lon continued to raise cattle and at one time horses. He was an accomplished carpenter having built several of his own boats. While always active in different business ventures he served as the President of the Jackson County State Bank until his retirement in 1985. Lon was also in the Oil and Gas Industry in which he was involved until his death.

 

He will be remembered for his wisdom, integrity, fairness, quick wit and great sense of humor.

 

A Memorial service will be held at the Edna Presbyterian Church on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Luncheon to follow in the fellowship hall.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Edna Presbyterian Church, 502 Apollo, Edna, Texas 77957 or Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust Ave, Victoria, Texas 77901.
