Citizens, Business of the Year, and Ag Award recipients named

The best of Jackson County were recognized at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership banquet on April 23.
Reid Ryan, president of the Houston Astros, founder and CEO of the Corpus Christi Hooks, and son of Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, was the featured speaker. Ryan entertained with stories of growing up with his father, raising his kids to be responsible, and not taking blessings for granted.
U.S. Representative Blake Farenthold, who is a huge Hooks fan, introduced Ryan and presented certificates of merit from his office to the evening’s award recipients.
Matt Minor, chief of staff for State Rep. Phil Stephenson, addressed the attendants in Stephenson’s absence, informing all on Barbara Stephenson’s recent stroke and asking for prayers for the family.
The Citizen of the Year award was presented to Dr. Sylvester and Diann Walleck, Business of the Year was HEB, and Danny Kubecka received the Ag Award.
Beautification awards were presented to R Bank, Michelle’s Flooring and Design, Edna ISD, The Donut Palace and Total Body Gym. Special Beautification awards were given to The City of Edna and The City of Ganado.
