Ruth R. Hernandez, 63, of Austin departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at the Hospice Austin’s Christopher House. She was born on Feb. 3, 1952 in Victoria, to Rev. Ramiro G. Rodriguez and Paula Rodriguez.
Ruth graduated from Edna High School and continued her studies at the University of Texas at Austin while working as an early-childhood caregiver. She worked at a local pre-school and expanded her love for children by developing her personal daycare. Ruth also had a passion for scrapbooking to preserve cherished memories she created with family and friends. She was a devoted member to West Oak Woods Baptist Church in Austin. She married John Hernandez on Nov. 15, 1986.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant sister, Lydia Rodriguez.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 30 years, John Hernandez; a son, John David Hernandez and his fiancé, Georgia Salinas of Austin; brothers, Pastor Rogelio R. Rodriguez and his wife, Olivia, from Rosenberg, and Ramiro Rodriguez, Jr. and his wife, Alma, from Corpus Christi; sisters, Gloria Cervantes and her husband, Mike, of Austin, Esther Garza of Austin, and Yolanda Gonzales and her husband, Raul, of Houston. She was loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and an honorary sister – Eunice Guajardo from Austin.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Westoak Woods Baptist Church, 2900 W. Slaughter Lane, Austin. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Austin.
