Rosa Sledge performs at Ganem’s Garage gathering

Trey and Michele Ganem weren’t about to let a little rain spoil their holiday party plans, especially considering the surprise they had in store for Edna. The party was forced inside, but the show went on without a hitch.
The pair recently made headlines when Trey built the casket for the funeral of Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer Percy Sledge, and to return the favor, Sledge’s family made a stop in Edna at his shop Saturday.
Rosa Sledge, who married Percy in 1980, made an appearance to sing, with his daughter Tanya singing backup. Rosa sang a rendition of Percy’s own “When a Man Loves a Woman,” leaving jaws on the floor as she belted the familiar tune. The scheduled entertainment, The Hot Attacks from Victoria, were visibly emotional as they played the song.
“This is such an honor,” singer Billy Moeller said after the performance.
Rosa said it was the least she could do, after all the Ganems have done for her family.
“Trey and Michele have been such a blessing, and we just wanted to come and support them,” she said while onstage.
Ganem’s shop was packed with people from Edna and surrounding areas, some of whom came for the music, and some who just came to support Trey and Michele, who are known for their charity not only in Jackson County, but across the United States. A film crew was present, filming for a possible television show.
Ganem said the turnout was great, despite the weather.
“We had between 150 and 200 people,” he said, “It was a great turnout for the weather and everybody that came had a blast.”
