Ganado Indians round up Edna Cowboys twice in pre-district play

    The Edna Cowboys hosted a basketball game with the Ganado Indians and lost with a final score of 57-54. This is the second time the teams have met up in pre-district play, where the Cowboys lost to the Indians with a score of 58-49 on Nov. 24 in Ganado.
    Christian Palacios said the team has been bonding. “Since we’re such a small team everyone knows everyone,” he said. “I would say we need even more effort than we have had, and keep going to the ball.”
    Malcolm Chaisson agreed with his teammate, and said more communication could be had with the team. “We need to talk more to work together, and talk more during the game.”
    The game started off with Cowboy Travis Farquhar scoring his first three-pointer of the night. Indian Sergio Martinez scored the first two Ganado points before Cowboy Terrell National scored two points of his own. Indian Caleb Thedford made a jump shot of his own for two points and then Farquhar found the hoop again and scored his second three-pointer of the night.
    It wasn’t long before Indian Malcolm Chaisson scored two points, and Thedford scored two more points in the form of two free throws. Cowboy Joseph Burnett found two points, while Indian Jorge Campuzano did the same. Indian Dalton Service scored two points, and Cowboys Cade Orsak and Terek Dilworth each scored a shot as well, adding four points to their overall score. Campuzano made two good free throws to tie the score at the end of the first quarter, 14 all.
    Ganado gave themselves a big lead in the second quarter. Indian Matt Bridges started the next eight minutes with a three-pointer, followed by Martinez scoring a free throw and Service making a layup of his own. Bridges then made another three-pointer for his team before Thedford was fouled big by Edna and made four free throw shots in a row.
    After Farquhar was fouled he made two free throw shots of his own, before Thedford found the hoop again for two points. Bridges made two good free throws and then Farquhar responded with a jump shot for two points.
    Dilworth scored a free throw and then Bridges made three free throw shots from two fouls to end the second quarter. The score was in Ganado’s favor, 34-19.
    In the next two quarters, Bridges scored eight more points including a three-pointer, Martinez scored five more points including a three-pointer, Thedford had four more points, and Service added two more points. Campuzano also added six points of his own.
    On the Cowboy side, Farquhar score six more points, National scored eight points including a three-pointer, Dilworth turned it up and added 12 more points in the form of four three-pointers. Landon O’Connor scored four points, Landon Myers added three points and Issac Shelton scored two points.
    Cowboy Dilworth said he believes the team is getting better and better every time they step on the court. “We aren’t getting wins like I know we should, but I think we as a team are becoming better and will have everything rolling once district starts.”
