Maidens work on passing

Head Coach Bryan Branch said the Ganado Maidens have struggled early in the season but are hoping to do better as the season goes along. The team played Rice Consolidated on Aug. 21 and 22 and lost both of those games, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-4 and 25-9. They also played Tidehaven on Aug. 13 and 11 and won both matches, 25-21, 25-15 and 21-25, 29-27, 25-17 and 25-14. On Aug. 28 they played Austwell-Tivoli and won in three, 25-11, 25-9 and 25-16.
“Our win against Tivoli was very timely, we started the season with three seniors, one junior, four sophomore and two freshman on varsity. Two of the seniors suffered injuries and we pulled up another freshman to fill the gap,” said Branch. “Our struggles are a result of our poor passing and some very bad decisions.  Bad decisions are things like tipping it out of bounds or sending a free ball out of bounds, or simply down balling the ball in net.”
Cheyenne Galindo said the team has been working on a lot of motivation and talking to each other, especially when they get down. “We’ve been working on a lot of passing lately, and during the game I was focused on my passing,” she said. “Since I’m the upper leader I’m trying to make my passes to the setter and let everyone else hit instead of just me because I don’t want to be the main hitter.”
In the Austwell-Tivoli game, Galindo had 8 kills and 3 aces, Kylie Hicks had 9 kills, 1 dig and 5 aces, and Mikaela Skalicky had 2 kills and 1 ace. Chelsea Rohrman had 1 kill, Alexis Mojica had 12 assists and 1 ace, while Delaney Workman had 5 assists. Ressman had 3 digs, and Reyna Gonzalez had 4 aces.
