Cobras push on in games
The Industrial Cobra volleyball team has been playing hard preparing for district. They played Boling at home on Aug. 25 and won in three games, 25-8, 25-16 and 25-18.
Libero player Skylar Chreene said the team played Boling twice in the Ganado tournament so they learned how to work around their big girl and their defense as well. “We practiced a lot this week to prepare for that game. We’re focused on working on and off pass, learning how to place the ball more and reading the other team’s defense,” she said.
The Cobra team competed in a Goliad tournament over the weekend and placed third. Chreene earned All-Tournament honors. The Cobras lost to Nixon Smiley in two to one games, 25-6, 20-25 and 27-29, while defeating George West in two games, 25-23 and 25-18. They beat Corpus Christi King in two, 25-15 and 25-19, and won out against Taft in two to one games, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-21. The Cobras lost to London in two to one games, 25-20, 26-28 and 18-25 and then defeated George West again in two to one games, 16-25, 25-20 and 25-18.
Kelsey Van Pelt said the team had great positivity on the court and on the bench. “We just like to get loud and motivate each other, so that really helps the momentum going into each game, it really helps us push through each one quickly,” she said. “We really work on the little things, techniques and working on out-of-system balls and just the little scenarios that can get us those extra points.”
