Two young Cowgirls prepare for their future

The PrimeTime Sports 2015 National Basketball Championship was held in Dallas from July 22-26, and Edna had a couple of Cowgirls representing. Jaslyn Foley, upcoming sophomore and Acajia Dickerson, upcoming freshman, competed in Dallas on the Wharton Wolfpack Pride team, a team that ranked 8th out of 60 teams.
This is their first year on the team, and the girls were scouted by Coach Stavon Williams earlier in the year to play for the Amateur Athletic Union and his Wolfpack Pride team.
“I just wanted to give the girls a chance to play and get them seen,” Williams said. “They were scouted by John Lucas basketball and USA basketball at Nationals.”
The Wolfpack Pride played five games, won 2 and lost 3. The first one was a win with 59-37 as the final score, then a loss with 54-38, another loss 60-36, and then the team pulled out a win with a score of 42-39. Their last game they lost with a score of 69-60.
“I’ve been playing basketball since the 7th grade,” Foley said. “When I play I focus on the entire game and play the positions of point guard and shooting guard.”
Foley is the daughter of Amy Schmidt and Elmorris Foley, Jr. She has a sister named Jashania Foley and a brother Tyler Schmidt.
Jaslyn said Acajia reminds her of herself when she plays.
Coach Williams said it was Foley’s defense, the way she hustles and her aggressive play matched the style his team played.
“The crazy thing about it, she’s one of the quietest people off the court, but when she gets on she plays hard,” he said.
Dickerson said she had always played Upward Basketball when she was younger, but stopped playing in the 7th and 8th grade. She said one of her best friends Lexi Reyes helped her to excel in basketball as she got older by helping her train and work out together.
