Cobra softball overcome errors

The Industrial Cobra softball team traveled to Rice Consolidated and suffered their first district loss, 7-5. It was a game that the Cobras fought back three times and took the lead to only lose it in the last inning. Errors turned out to be costly in the defeat.
Jillian Jones led the hitting with two hits and scored two runs. Reagan Gasch, Reagan Doyle and Cierra Borak also had hits and scored a run each. Lexey Mikulec and Kasi Bethke each had a hit and a run batted in
Landry Mikulec was the losing pitcher and had four strikeouts and four walks.
Coach Ted Malek said when errors are a big part of the game it’s hard to overcome. “We came back three times and our defensive play let it get away,” he said.
The Junior Varsity Cobra softball team lost 11-10 to Rice Consolidated as well.
The Cobras had a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning and worked out of a Palacios Shark rally and again scored in the sixth for the win.
Leading hitters for the Cobras were Doyle 2-4 scoring two runs, Jones was 2-4 and two runs batted in, Lexey Mikulec was 1-3 and one run scored, Landry Mikulec was 2-3 and one run scored, and Borak was 1-3.
Landry Mikulec pitched a complete game for her eighth win of the season. She had four strikeouts and no walks. The Cobra softball team improved their district record to two wins and one loss. Their season record is 12-3, and they will host Hallettsville on Thursday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m.
“The Cobras played strong for five innings but fought through a Shark rally in the sixth,” Coach Malek said. “Our district is very competitive and you have to play at your best.”
