Maidens refocus for District play

    The Ganado Maidens competed in a San Marcos softball tournament on March 13 and 14. Their first game was against Flatonia with a final score of 6-5. Leading hitters were Hannah Janssen, Alexis Mojica, Cheyenne Galindo and Maddie Workmon. Galindo had two runs batted in while Sarah Novak had one. Galindo pitched and had 13 hits, six runs, a walk and six strikeouts.
    The Maidens then faced Shiner and lost, 6-0. Only Mojica and Workmon had a hit. Galindo pitched the game and had six hits, six runs, a walk and four strikeouts.
    In their third game the Maidens faced St. Pius from Houston and lost, 1-0, in a close game. Janssen had the sole hit of the game. Galindo pitched the game and had two hits, a run and five strikeouts.
    The Maidens faced Eagle Pass and almost won with a final score of 4-3. Mojica, Janssen and Mirelez each had a hit, while Mojica had two runs and Kendall Alvarez had one run. Mojica and Galindo each had a run batted in. Galindo pitched the game and had seven hits, four runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
    Dodd City was up next for the Maidens, and Ganado lost 3-5. Leading hitters for the game were Mojica, Janssen and Novak with two apiece. Novak and Mirelez each had a triple. Galindo pitched the game and had seven hits, five runs and a strikeout.
    On Saturday the Maidens were ready to battle. They played Canyon Lake and won 4-0. Leading hitter was Janssen with three hits and a triple, while Mojica, Galindo, Novak, Workmon and Kylie Hicks each had one hit. Galindo pitched the game and had three hits and four strikeouts.
    The Maidens then played Fredricksburg and lost, 4-7. Leading hitters were Mojica, Novak and Alvarez with two hits each. Galindo pitched the game and had nine hits, seven runs, a walk and five strikeouts.
