Spring break - bah humbug

It is tough sitting in this office today. As the rain falls steadily on the roof, trying to lull me to sleep, I know that somewhere out there people are having fun in the sun.
Profiles on Facebook are full of pictures from fun places that include cruise ships, Mickey Mouse, swimming pools – all places that are on my weekly bucket list, meaning I need to go there every week. I am a fun-in-the-sun kind of girl and there is no fun in the sun happening here.
Face it, folks. Spring break is for kids. And kids parents who can take off when their kids are on spring break. For the rest of us it is just another week of the year. I can only imagine the reaction young adults feel when they realize they got their wish and are so grown up that spring break is a thing of the past.
I have compassion for those families, though. As another wave of rain hits, I sympathize with those who, for whatever reason, couldn’t get off of work or couldn’t afford to take their kids away this year. They are stuck at home, in the house, watching the rain pour down, knowing it is too cold and yukky outside to even go jump in puddles. For them, spring break can be a stressful time trying to keep everyone entertained without killing each other.
Yes, I am one of those adults that doesn’t get a spring break. However, my break is called vacation and I am free to take it wherever and whenever my schedule allows. Hopefully the weather will clear up and all the little – and big – kids get to enjoy their annual break.
