Cobras fang the Cowboys

The Industrial Cobras stood up to the Cowboys in a basketball game and won with a final score of 50-34.

"My guys are good," Cobra Coach Rusty Roe said proudly. "They play well together, they're a good team, they like each other, they play hard, and they like to get after it."

"Nothing worked out this evening, especially defensively," said Edna Coach Chad Hartley. "We couldn't score. We will probably play Goliad on Monday in Bloomington, but I don't know when yet."

Three 'Boys put numbers on the board in the first quarter: Travis Farquhar put away the first three-pointer of the game, Matt White and Landon Myers dropped in a couple of free throws. Many shots were attempted by the 'Boys, but not a lot of shots were making it into the basket.

Kyle Alexander put away a layup and his older brother Brandon put the rest of the points on the board by the end of the first. The Cobras led the score 10-7, and were still leading at halftime with 22-12 on the board. Kyle added a three-pointer and two baskets, Brandon made a shot, and Trevor Ressman put his name on the scoring list with a three-pointer. Myers put in another shot for the Cowboys and Brandon Nidey added three free throws to his team's numbers.

Both team started to play more aggressively in the last half, but the Cowboys couldn't get their numbers above the Cobras. Brady Karl and Kyle put in two points apiece, while Brandon added six points and Ressman added four, plus another three-pointer for the Cobras. Matt White, Nidey, Darnelius Norman and Farquhar each put in a couple of points for the 'Boys, while Myers added five points. The score was 25-36 at the end of the third.

Industrial's Bubba Garcia, Jay Sandoval, Karl, Brock Werckle, Kyle and Wesley Sliva racked up the Cobra score to 50 points, while Nidey and Farquhar added two points each, and White scored five more points, bringing the Cowboy score to 34.

The Cobras are playing poth on Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Yoakum at 7:00 p.m. Roe said Poth is a good team and are similar to Industrial. "It's going to be a battle, just like every game this year was a battle for us, but I think we're pretty tested and we play a lot of close games to our advantage. I'm thinking we're going to do pretty good as long as we keep working hard and keep playing like we do, I think we're in great shape," he ended.
