Joseph J.J. Bubela
Joseph James (J.J.) Bubela, 70, of Edna, formerly of El Campo, passed away Feb. 7, 2015. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an adoring grandfather. He was also the owner of JJ Bubela’s Floor Center in El Campo.
J.J. was born Feb. 1, 1945 in El Campo, to the late Joe Charles and Mary Frnka Bubela. He graduated from El Campo High School in 1963 and married Monica Malek July 8, 1965. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year.
J.J. was an active member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church for more than 40 years, serving as an Eucharistic minister, a former St. Philip Catholic School board member, and a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2490. The couple moved to Jackson County in 2008 and are currently members of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna.
J.J. will be remembered as a kind and compassionate man who did all he could to help others, especially those in need. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and caring for the wildlife and cattle on his Jackson County ranch.
Survivors include his wife Monica Bubela of Edna; daughter Amy Callagher and husband James of Farmersville; sons Jeff Bubela of Victoria, Chris Bubela and wife Michelle of Edna, Jay Bubela and wife Amanda of Sugar Land, and Jeremy Bubela and wife Kassie of El Campo; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters Edith Johnson and husband John of Livingston, Bernice Hajovsky and husband George of Ganado, Betty Hlavinka and husband Leon of El Campo; brother Edwin Bubela and wife Peggy of Lake Jackson; and sister-in-law Leona Bubela of El Campo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Arlene Hartl and husband Frank, and brother Eugene Bubela.
Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Church. Burial will follow at St. Procopius Catholic Cemetery in Louise.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Ladewig, Carlos Gussman, Walter Lilie, Leonard Goerig, Ray Allen Jaksch, and Glenn Riha.
Donations in memory of J. J. Bubela may be made to St. Philip Catholic School or M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
