Raymond Kuretsch

    Raymond E. Kuretsch, 94, of Ganado passed away on Monday Jan. 19, 2015. Raymond was born on Jan. 11, 1921 to the late Louis and Lena (Buddenburg) Kuretsch in Ganado, on the same land he continued to live on.
    Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Verlie Mae Kuretsch, his brother; Bernard Kuretsch and his sister Esther Walton.
    Raymond is survived by his children, Ray Kuretsch of Ganado, Bonnie and husband Trey Edwards of Victoria, and Robbie and his wife Brette Kuretsch of Katy; his grandchildren, Sabrina (Martin) Mollie (Jason), Ross Shae (Christa); great-grandchildren, Christian, Celeste, Taylor, Zachary, Gage and Gavin.
    Raymond served in the U. S. Navy from Oct. 3, 1942 thru Jan. 8, 1946 with the Armed Guard Branch of the Navy where he served as a gunner's mate on five different ships during WWII. After serving time with an honorable discharge he came back to Gando and started farming. At this time he met his wife, Verlie Mae Braun and they were married on Aug. 18, 1946 in Round Top. His farming continued thru 1968 when he contacted the sanitation route for the city of Ganado. He owned and operated Kuretsch Sanitation thru 1987 at which time he retired. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #346 and the Veterans of Foreign War.
    Raymond was always ready to help anyone at any time, he was loved by many and will be missed by all.
    Visitation was Jan. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. Service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church also in Ganado, with Rev. Chris Heinold officiating. Internment will be in the Ganado City Cemetery with Ganado American Legion Post #346 providing military honors.
    The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to St. James Lutheran Church in Ganado.
