Still no word on quiet zone

Trains are still blowing their horns loudly as they pass through the city of Edna and it doesn’t look like they will quit anytime soon. Mayor Joe Hermes updated city council members on the status of the city’s attempt to make Edna a quiet zone at the Jan. 5 meeting.
Hermes said the city has done their part, hiring a consultant familiar with the steps needed to get a quiet zone approved by the Federal Railroad Commission. They are now playing the waiting game to hear what needs to be done for approval.
He said the main concern is the crossing on Hwy. 111 by Prosperity Bank. The FRC is concerned someone could enter the bank’s drive-through from the wrong direction to enter and go south on Hwy. 111, circumventing the crossing arms.
