A 21-year-old woman died and another person was injured after a two-vehicle accident on State Highway 111 about 12 miles northwest of Blessing in Jackson County near the Matagorda County line at 7:38 p.m. on Jan. 13.
Angelique Jordan of Victoria died after losing control of her 1999 Toyota Avalon on SH 111 and crashing into Markham’s Walt Phillips 2013 Dodge Dart. Jordan was traveling west on SH 111 when she lost control of her vehicle, swerved and veered into oncoming traffic.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson County Justice of the Peace Darren Stancik. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, according to a Department of Public Safety spokesperson.
Jordan was an electrical apprentice at South Texas Nuclear Plant. She joined the company in July of 2014.
A source said Phillips, 48, is a sales manager at Texana Ford Buick GMC in Edna and was the person injured in the accident. Phillips was transported to Matagorda Regional Medical Center. The source said he is doing okay and has broken ribs.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s office, emergency officials from both Jackson County and Matagorda County and the Department of Public Safety responded to the accident.
The accident is being investigated by Trooper Andrew Alexander.
