Maiden excels consistently in sports
There’s no doubt when Ganado Maiden senior Taylor Mirelez is playing a sport, she’s playing it well, and she makes it look easy. As a team captain, her Coach Bryan Branch has nothing but good things to say about her.
“She leads in just about every statistical category there is, and has been able to dominate games even when the opposing coaches are double and sometimes triple-teaming her,” Branch said. “She has done a great job of not getting frustrated when that happens and tries other ways to score such as rebounding or getting a steal.”
Taylor said Branch has taught her to always give the greatest effort one can out on the court, for every loose ball, rebound, and making it to the basket.
Taylor grew up playing basketball with her cousins, Chance and Kody, although her mom taught her what she knows about the game. Taylor is the daughter of Cyndi Poulton and David Mirelez.
“My goals this season are to make it to the playoffs again,” she said. “Since a new school has entered our district, we have to fight a little harder for a spot.” Taylor added the team has been getting along great on and off the court. Although they have their bad days every once in awhile, she said they always make up for it.
Taylor has been on Ganado’s varsity team since she was a freshman and said since it’s her senior year her awareness level has risen from game-to-game. “Because it’s my last year I always tell myself to go out there and play my heart out in every game, each one is closer to the end of the season.”
Branch said she’s had a great senior season and has really developed as a basketball player since her sophomore year. “She’s gotten a little quicker, in better shape and is able to play an entire game now which is what we need out of her,” he said. “And above all, she’s a great kid who has a good heart and is very dependable,” he paused.
“However, she is very competitive and when she gets on the court she is all business. That is my kind of player!”
