Ganado’s Sydney Kallus was in the hearts and minds of blood donors on Jan. 5 during a blood drive at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Kallus who is just 11 years old was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma a few months ago.
Burkitt’s Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, particularly B lymphocytes found in the germinal center.
Her godmother, Heather Kallus, said Michelle Darilek came up with the idea to call MD Anderson Cancer Center and have a blood drive to benefit Sydney Kallus.
“So what happens with this blood drive, if the blood type is a match, Sydney can get the blood or the platelets and if the blood type does not a match then Sydney will get monetary credit,” Heather Kallus said. “So when she has to get blood products it will be at a discounted price for her.”
