Nancy Fella

    Nancy Louise Fella, 94, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Nov. 30, 2014, at The Home Place assisted living in Ganado, following a long battle with Alzheimer-type dementia.
    She was born March 6, 1920, in Tyler, to John Felix Ward and Mary Lucille Ford Ward. The family later moved to the Clemville area, where she attended school in Markham and met her high school sweetheart and future husband, John Victor (J.V.) Fella. They were married in 1940 and celebrated 68 years of marriage before his death in 2008.
    Nancy and J.V. lived in Clemville until they moved to Edna in 1960. They became active members of First Baptist Church. She loved singing in the choir and greatly enjoyed teaching a Training Union class with J.V., assisting with the Girls Auxiliary, and participating in the WMU. She also enjoyed many other activities, such as sewing, gardening, get-togethers and trips with her daughter, as well as friends and family, and in her later years, oil painting. Nancy and J.V. greatly enjoyed camping at Lake Texana. She loved life, and had a wonderful smile and laugh. 
    In Edna she worked for a time for Dr. David Towery, then at Jackson County State Bank, until her retirement. She volunteered with the Blue Belles at the hospital, as well as at Southbrook Manor.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Geraldine Stell.
    She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Suzanne Fella of Houston, her sister Mary Frances Hicks of El Campo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Visitation was Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna on Dec. 3, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Edna, with Rev. Robert Krause officiating. A family burial followed at the Danevang Lutheran Church cemetery, with Crown Hospice Chaplain Lyman Mereness officiating.
    Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Edna, or a charity of choice.
