Industrial gets Rice-raided

The Industrial Cobras played hard against the Rice Raiders on Friday night’s District game but lost with a score of 51-12.
Head Coach Jeff Rogers said the team played hard and they’re going to continue to work hard towards a win. “We turned the ball over too many times and struggled covering the pass,” he said.
The first half of play proved to be a struggle for the Cobras both offensively and defensively. The Raiders left the Cobras scoreless in the first and second quarters resulting in a 24-0 score at the half.
The Cobras came out aggressively in the third quarter. #25 Trevor Ressman received the opening kick off and ran it into Raider territory. A personal foul against the Raiders landed the Cobras inside the 30-yard line. The Cobra offense quickly moved the ball inside the 10-yard line and #35 quarterback Ethan McMullen ran the ball across the goal line for a Cobra touchdown. The Cobra’s attempt at a two-point conversion fell short, and the Raiders led the score with 24-6.
The Cobras kicked an onside and received the ball but the fans celebration was cut short when a Cobra fumbled and the Raiders recovered. The Raiders scored two more times before the Cobras answered back with an 80-yard kick-off return by #30 Ethan Brown. With the conversion attempt spoiled the Cobras didn’t score again. Two more touchdowns by the Raiders bought the final score to Rice Raiders 51, Industrial Cobras 12.
Defense Coordinator Mike Treybig said the team’s effort, their heart and desire is all the coaches can ask from the kids, and that was definitely there from them. “When it comes down to it you put yourself in a situation to do something and sometimes it doesn’t happen and we weren’t able to make the play,” he said. “Hitchcock runs a wing-t or a slot-t offense which is more traditional to South Texas and it’s different than something we’ve seen before in the district, aside from Edna. Wide open spread offenses is the norm and running the ball is the unusual part. They want to confuse you with formations and have the team line up wrong.” Treybig went on to say the team is 94% running and 6% passing, and they have to make sure the team lines up correct.
The Industrial Cobras will hit the road for their final game of the season against the Hitchcock Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, there.
