Ganado gets scratched
The Indians took a devastating 28-17 loss on Friday night against the Weimar Wildcats. “We dug ourselves a hole that we weren’t able to get out of in the first half,” said Head Coach Jim Bird. “We’re just going to go out there next week, and play like it may be our last game of the season.”
Weimar quickly found their way to the end zone with a long run, and gave the Wildcats the first touchdown of the game. After, the Indians held the ball, but quickly had to punt back to Weimar. This gave the Wildcats the chance to score yet another touchdown with a two-point conversion. This made the score 14-0 in Weimar’s favor.
The kickoff back to the Indians was picked up by Senior Kameron Smith. He then ran for the end zone giving the Indians a two-point conversion. The Indians held the ball, but a pass landed in a Wildcat’s paws. This led to a touchdown that moved the score to 20-2, still in Weimar’s favor.
The Wildcats held the ball after a punt, but a pass was intercepted by sophomore Indian Garrett McCann. The Indians began charging towards the end zone, and a pass from Jonathon Martinez to Smith gave the Indians a 28-yard gain. Later McCann pushed through a pack of Wildcats for a 33-yard gain, giving the Indians another touchdown with a two-point conversion. McCann later rushed two yards for another touchdown, and this brought the score to 20-17.
The Indians became hopeful as the clock was ticking down, but several short runs gave the Wildcats another touchdown and field goal in the last several seconds of the game. This made the ending score 27-17.
Senior Austin Alford said that despite the loss the Indians are excited for the fight for playoffs next week. “We definitely need to be more fired up coming into the game next week,” said Alford. “We’re really going to pull together, because the entire team and I want to win by 18 to go to playoffs.”
Senior Cameron Martinez said the team is prepared to work on their downfalls in the coming week. “We didn’t play as well as we should have in the first half,” said Martinez.”We tried to pick it up in the second half, but just fell short. The game next week will definitely be a dog fight.”
The Indians will play this Friday in Schulenburg against the Shorthorns.
