Cobras get scratched by Bobcats
The Industrial Cobras played and unfortunately lost to the Hempstead Bobcats on Pink-Out Friday night with a final score of 48-7. Captains #64 Hunter Goyen, #84 Wesley Sliva, #44 Kyle Fortenberry and #88 Bubba Garcia represented the Cobras for the coin toss.
#33 Tyler Conard believes the team will step up. “We know how much this game means to our community and especially to us,” he said. “We know what we can do. We just need to execute. We’re determined to walk off that field this Friday and know without a doubt we left everything out there.”
#80 Kayden Kurtz found the Bobcat's kick-off around the 20-yard line, and both teams began the fight. #25 Trevor Ressman, #34 Ethan McMullen and Conard each made good carries and passes. When the ball became the Bobcat's, the Cobra defense line was good and tough. Fortenberry made a good attack on a few Bobcats in two plays, and both #19 Nick Kouches and #73 Travis Alexander also took down some Cats. #61 Sean Bastain also made a heavy tackle on a Cat.
Hempstead was pushing for a touchdown and the Cobras held them at the 7-yard line for more than one play. The Cats fumbled and the Cobras jumped on it. Ressman carried the ball down the field little by little, and #10 Brock Werckle tried to get the ball down the field with a punt, but wasn't successful. The Cats got the ball back and scored a touchdown early into the first quarter, plus the extra point. The score was Hempstead 7, Industrial 0.
For the remainder of the first quarter both teams battled and made mistakes, but pushed the ball back and forth on the field. #20 Trent Perry, Ressman, #32 Brady Karl, McMullen and Conard did some work for their team with carries, tackles, kicks and catches.
The second quarter was more of the same, and Hempstead made another touchdown in with 9:26 left in the quarter, plus the field goal. 14-0 was in Hempstead's favor. The Cobras were able to answer back and score a touchdown in the same quarter, with 4:06 left. McMullen passed the ball to Conard and the goal was good, plus the extra point.
Cobra fans cheered in unison when the touchdown was made, and reminded the crowd of how great a Friday night can be.
#43 Kendrick Shelton, #50 Stephen Bethany and #30 Ethan Brown made some good stops against the Cats. Amidst a flurry of Cat’s yellow flags they took control of the game and scored two touchdowns at 57 seconds left, and 25 seconds left in the second quarter. The score at halftime was 27-7 in Hempstead's favor.
In the third quarter #19 Nick Kouches, Kurtz, Bastain and #32 Brady Karl made more good stops for the Cobras. At 10:02 left in the quarter the Bobcats slipped in a field goal, making the score 28-7. Ressman went to work and pushed down the field, and Perry made stops as well. With seven minutes to go the Cats score again with the extra point, bringing it to 34-7.
Back and forth the teams went again, and the Cats scored again with 3:44 left in the quarter, but not without McMullen, #11 Daniel Santillan, Conard and Karl doing some work for their team.
The last quarter was unfortunately no different, the Cats scored again with 11:41 left, plus the extra point. The Cobras made sure the Cats weren't going to score again, therefore the final score was 48-7.
Kouches, Werckle, Brown, Conard and McMullen again made moves to make their team proud.

Ressman said he doesn’t think the team is missing anything, only that the team needs to bond more. “We need to play as a team rather than individuals,” he said. “And we’re going to work hard this week to put up a great fight against Edna. We will probably work on breaking down, tackling, and not getting beat deep on pass plays.”
The Industrial Cobras will play the Edna Cowboys this Friday night in Edna with a kick-off time of 7:30 p.m.
