And it’s a bouncing baby boy!

August 28 is going to be one of my most memorable days because I had given birth to a precious baby boy named Logan Alexander Shapiro. At 7:32 p.m. Logan entered this world and changed my life forever.
It wasn’t easy bringing him into the world because of a few pregnancy complications. I stayed in Citizens Medical Center for a month. I was monitored daily by nurses who checked my daily signs.
When my doctor told me I had to go to the hospital I was very scared because it was my first time being pregnant. She also said I will be induced very early.
Having to stay confined in the hospital for that amount of time gave me a touch of cabin fever. I would look out the window watching out for the hospital helicopter, individuals driving through the McDonald’s drive through and watching people leaving and being admitted into the hospital. Watching television, being interrupted by nurses and walking around with the IV machine got old really quick.
I started feeling like I was being punished, like I was sent to my room. I never realized how good it was to leave the apartment just to go to McDonald’s or to Target until that point. I yearned just to step outside and take a little walk.
The best part of the day was getting up and taking a shower. It always made me feel more rejuvenated.
When my doctor set the date for Aug. 28, I had mixed emotions. There were times when I was anxious, times when I was excited and other times when I was scared.
When lo and behold I looked up and saw my son for the very first time I started crying, not just for the birth of my son but because the pregnancy had finally come to an end.
Before giving birth, the situation seem bleak. But that is not how it went down at all. Logan could breathe on his own and suck on a bottle in just a couple of days. We were able to take him home in a week. I was able to go home in two days.
So it has been almost eight weeks and both of us are healthy and doing just fine. Logan now weighs 8 pounds and two ounces. He gets fussy every so often, can get pretty squirmy and sometimes roll up into a ball like a roly poly. Other than that taking care of him has been pretty easy. He is truly a blessing and I wouldn’t trade him in for anything in the world.
Seeing him go to daycare for the first time was very hard for me. I am happy to be back at the Jackson County Herald-Tribune because I now have more of a sense of normalcy and I can continue doing something I enjoy, that is writing.
