Ludy Cadwell

Ludy McDonald Cadwell, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2014 at the age of 99, while at the Hillje Catholic Czech Home for the aged. She was born in Navidad (Morales), Texas on Nov. 25, 1914 to Wendall and Ruth Cosper McDonald. Woodrow Wilson was President of the U.S.A. and World War I had just begun. Her home was lighted by kerosene lamps, no radio, TV, nor computers or phones and cell phones.   
    Ludy, a lady full of laughter, loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her extended family. She graced this earth with her presence for 99 years. She cherished family gatherings in Morales at the McDonald farm and later on at her home. She loved fiddling contests and attended whenever and as much as she could always laughing, clapping and enjoying herself as well as the contestants.
    Ludy lived almost exclusively in Morales for her entire life and was well acquainted with people in the surrounding communities. She attended a one room school house in Morales and arrived there walking across fields, muddy dirt roads or riding a horse, she and her siblings swam often the Navidad River which was back of their farm. 
    Ludy never lost her spirit or her will to survive as difficulties arose in her life. She simply stated, “Well, you just have to keep trusting in the Lord” … and indeed she did just that.
    Ludy is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Cadwell, Edgar Good and Allen Gandy; also by her only child James Gandy and spouse Hilda Gandy Floyd; by great-grandchildren, Heather Henry and Luke Richard; by sisters, Alma Watson and Farrell, Gladys Davis and Lewis, Sidney Caldwell and Kelly; and by brothers, Charlie McDonald and Christine, Worden McDonald and Mary Lou, and Oliver McDonald.
    Ludy is survived by her sister-in-law, Faye Porche McDonald of Edna; granddaughters, Debbie Henry and spouse Mike, Lynette Plattsmier and spouse Chris, and great-great grandchildren (and spouses when listed)  Jamie Gandy, Brook Rinoudo and Anthony, John Schexnayder and Ashley, Jenny Richard, Gabby Plattsmier; great-great-grandchild, Luke Schexnayder, all of Louisiana.
    Numerous nieces and nephews are; Billie Jo Shook of Edna, Eva Dale Garner of Houston, Sally Lou Clark and Joe of Houston, Mamie Caldwell of Magnolia, Edgar Caldwell and Barbara of Rockport, Michael McDonald and Kathy of Conroe, Sharon McDonald Parramore and Jerry of Houston. 
    Visitation and Service will be at Oaklawn Funeral Home, 900 Navidad Street, Edna. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and service to began at 1 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held at the entrance to Memory Gardens Cemetery following the service. Service will be conducted by The Right Rev. Bishop Roy Carrico, Bishop of East Texas District PC of God.
    Pallbearers will be Edgar B. Caldwell, Chris Plattsmier, Rocky Cosper, I., Michael Henry, Michael McDonald, I., Rusty Shook and Jerry Parramore as a pallbearer usher.
    Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna, 361-782-2221.
