Ruth Geldert

    Ruth Adair Dwigans Geldert, age 97, of San Jose, Calif. passed away on Oct. 7, 2014.  She was born on March 12, 1917 in Ganado to Forrest W. and Emma B. Payne Dwigans. Ruth was a 1937 graduate of Rice University. She married fellow Rice graduate, William John Carlyle Geldert, originally of Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Oct. 3, 1941 in Houston. They had one daughter, Judith Ann Geldert (Munnerlyn). 
    Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, U.S. Army Captain Geldert, of the Combat Command B, 3rd Armored Division, who was killed in battle in Brittany on Aug. 2, 1944.  She also was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Forrest P. Dwigans, his wife Lorraine, and their son Forrest Michael Dwigans. 
    Ruth resided in Ganado where she was employed by the Mauritz Memorial Hospital as a medical records librarian for 12 years, and later by Ganado High School, where she taught English and Spanish for 20 years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Ganado where she served as the pianist. Ruth enjoyed international travel, genealogy research, playing bridge and spending time with her family.
    Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy Munnerlyn; son-in-law Charles R. Munnerlyn; her four grandchildren, W. John (Julie), Audrey, Stewart (Stacey), and C. Patrick (Rhonda) Munnerlyn; and her seven great-grandchildren, Ivy, Rosemary, Brady, Kate, Beatrix, Maven and Redlee Munnerlyn, all of California.
    In 1993, after retiring from teaching, Ruth moved to California to be closer to her family. She was a member of the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church, where a memorial service will be held. A burial service will be held at the Ganado Cemetery on Oct. 13 at 10 a.m.
