Notes from the bunkhouse by Superintendent Robert O'Connor
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work our way through the new procedures intended to improve student safety in terms of our car ridership. We have flipped cars to the back and buses to the front in order to better stage our car ridership in terms of organization and bad weather occurrences.
A few things which I believe we will improve by these changes are:
We can now line them up in the cafeteria and gym by grade level and dismiss them to you without you having to get out of your cars and enter the building to pick up your students.
We have constructed an awning to facilitate loading and unloading up to seven cars at a time. I know that there were two lanes in the past but that required us to load kids through car lines and I would like to avoid crossing between cars when it can be avoided. Please pull all the way up to the first available stall to facilitate us loading as many cars as possible at one time to get the time down on dismissal. Arrival has gone very smoothly this week considering there is a block of time associated with loading and unloading over 800 students safely and efficiently.
We have more staff on duty to ensure the students are greeted and safely brought to and from the building. We need to make sure that we have the right child with the right parent on a daily basis and this does take time but the one time it is not done with fidelity it can have harsh consequences in the form of a lost child or someone picking up your student without permission. It is a responsibility that we do not take lightly and we ask your support and patience with the process.
