Newbern anticipates his upcoming senior year

    Upcoming senior Holton Newbern has been working hard since he was a kid at anything he puts his mind to, and his last year at Edna High School is going to be no different. He’s probably best at being an all-around sports and percussion guy, rather than excelling at one thing more than another. In addition to band, Newbern plays football, basketball, baseball, tennis and runs track.
    He has had a few people throughout his youth to inspire his goals: his dad, Chris Whitehead, someone who he’s grown up playing baseball with, and coaches like Kensey Allen and Ben Callies. Newbern said he also enjoyed watching Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves.
    Newbern is the son of Dwayne and Lisa Newbern, and has two older brothers, D.J. and Adam.
