Many pesky mosquitoes have been invading Jackson County after a few days of torrential rainfall. City officials have ordered aerial spraying to help get rid of mosquitoes in some parts of the county.
City of Ganado Public Works Director Curtis Martin said spraying has taken place for the past two weeks in Ganado. Martin said Ganado gets sprayed every night all over the city limits.
“We will continue spraying as long as we have a mosquito problem,” he said.
City of Edna Public Works Director Brad Ryan said mosquitoes have been an issue for Edna. Ryan said the city has been spraying Edna city limits since Sunday evening. He said they have been spraying every night since then.
“We will be spraying until we get a handle on them,” Ryan said.
Jackson County Judge Dennis Simons said the county doesn’t have any equipment, a facility or a person who is certified to spray anywhere outside city limits. Simons said Ganado and Edna are the only cities he is aware of doing it.
He said the county needed the rain and he hopes as soon as it dries up outside the mosquitoes won’t be much of a problem anymore.
