New technology helps kids learn

The Industrial Independent School District Board of Trustees discussed technological improvements at IISD campuses during its Feb. 10 regular board meeting.
Kelly Kisiah, district dyslexia coordinator, shared with trustees a new website/software called Bookshare. Bookshare is an accessible online library of digital books for people with print disabilities. It operates under an exception to U.S. copyright law which allows copyrighted digital books to be made available to people with qualifying disabilities.
“We have been actively looking for new technology that will help our students,” Kisiah said. “Our students use audio books. We download those. This is a new one that we came across. It is called Bookshare and this is accessible to students with a learning disability that impacts reading.”
