Cowgirls play hard versus rivals

“We played hard even being out of the playoff race,” said Coach Brett Nidey. “That is what I love about these girls, everyone in my program plays hard.”
The Edna Cowgirls (8-17) played against Tidehaven on  Jan. 29, and won, 44-28.
Tamara Mathis scored 13 points, three rebounds, a steal, a deflection and an assist, and Kacey Nidey scored 10 points, five steals, a deflection and three assists. Haley Orsak scored nine points, five rebounds, two blocks and four steals, and Kamryn Roman scored eight points, two rebounds, three steals and an assist.     The Cowgirls also played the Industrial Cobras on Friday, Jan. 31, and lost 35-38. Tamara Mathis made a shot to tie up the match 35-35, causing the game to go into overtime for another quarter. Both teams went back and forth, until Industrial made the last shot to win the game.
“We played hard, but we were out of control, the effort was there,” said Orsak.
Nidey scored 12 points, four rebounds, four steals, a deflection and two assists, and Gaskin scored eight points, two rebounds, a block and two steals. Roman scored six points, three rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist, and Myers scored three points, a rebound, a steal and a deflection. Orsak, Mathis and Rylee Morrow scored two points apiece, while Orsak added 12 rebounds, Mathis added two steals and an assist, and Morrow added a rebound and a block.
“We missed a lot of open looks close to the end of the game that might’ve helped us pull out the win,” said K. Nidey. “Our teams worked really well together, we played hard, solid defense throughout the whole game, it just came up a little short on the offensive side.”
The Cowgirls will have played their last game in Goliad on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
