Ganado athletes make all-district

Results for the 2013 All-District teams representing volleyball and football came in recently for Ganado high school. Pictures are available on page 2B. They are as follows:
On the Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State First Team is Ashley Bridges and Emma Weschler. Both girls were also named to the Texas High School Coaches Association/United States Marine Corps Academic All-State teams, Bridges was named to the Elite Team and Weschler to the Second Team. Bridges also made the THSCA/UCMC Academic All-State Cross-Country Elite Team as well.
Valeria Garcia, Taylor Mirelez, Hannah Janssen, Ashley Bridges and Sarah Novak made the Academic All-District volleyball team.
The following football players made the All-District First Team Offense this year: Clay Vesely, District MVP, Ray Salazar, Offensive Player of the Year, Garrett McCann, Newcomer of the Year, Billy Jones, Running Back, Kameron Smith, Wide Receiver, Taylor Thedford, Wide Receiver, Austin Alford, Tight End, Manuel Almeda, Center, Thomas Parks, Lineman, Will Malek, Lineman, Braydan Andel, Lineman and Salvador Almeda, Lineman. Second Team Offense is as follows: Cody Plant, Lineman and John Tristan, Lineman.
All-District First Team Defense: Malek, Defensive tackle, M. Almeda, Defensive Tackle, Andel, Defensive End, Jones, Outside Linebacker, Salazar, Outside Linebacker, Plant, Inside Linebacker, Jacob Foltyn, Defensive Back, Smith, Defensive Back, and Parks, Punter.
Second Team Defense: Parks, Defensive Tackle, Alford, Defensive End, Brandon Lister, Outside Linebacker and Thedford, Defensive Back.
The Ganado staff was also named to Coach of the Year.
Nick Skoruppa, Andel, Thedford, Foltyn, Alford, Plant, Malek and Vesely were also named to the Academic All-District football team.
The following were named to the Associated Press Sports Editors Class 1A All-State football team, First Team: Vesely, Defensive Back, Malek, Offensive Lineman, Andel, M. Almeda, Offensive Lineman, Andel, Defensive End. Vesely also made the Second Team as a Running Back.
