Mary Frels

    Mary Laughter Frels, 102 years, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013. She was born Dec. 20, 1911, in Edna to the late Gordon and Carrie Fisher Laughter. Mary taught school in the Industrial School District for 26 years. She was a lifetime Methodist and member of the First United Methodist Church in Edna and Lolita Methodist Church. She was a member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas, United Methodist Women of Edna, Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW 8556, Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, United Daughters of the Confederacy and a Real Granddaughter of the Confederacy.
    Mary is survived by her daughter, Rev. Suzanne Brantley and husband Paul; sons, Don B. Frels, and Pierce Frels and wife Karen, brother John G. Laughter; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter, son, Dick, brother, William Pierce Laughter and a sister, Anna Lee Ratliff.
    Visitation and services will be Friday Dec. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Edna with Rev. Bernard Ritchea and Rev. James Amerson officiating.
    Interment will follow in the Laughter Family Cemetery.
