LNRA alligator harvest reduces pest population

The Lavaca-Navidad River Authority board met on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Harry Hafernick center. Among other things, numbers were given from this year’s alligator harvest, executed by Janik Alligators, LLC, based out of El Campo.
Charles Reckaway, LNRA deputy general manager, said the harvest was done to help control the alligator population near the water . “Janik Alligators harvested 18 nests, 581 eggs, and tagged 25 alligators, the rest were trapped. Eight people were allowed to go on the guided hunt as well,” said Reckaway. “The harvest was successful.”
