Earl Wiegand, 44, of Edna was airflighted to Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi after his black Honda Civic overturned several times on Farm-to-Market 234 about two-tenths of a mile south of County Road 316 on Nov. 27. He sustained serious injuries.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Gerald Bryant said he had incapacitating injuries, meaning he could not get up or move around.
Bryant said Wiegand was traveling southbound on FM 234 when he approached a spiked turn on the left. Wiegand ran off the road on the right then steered back onto the highway. He crossed both lanes and went into a ditch on the left side of the road. Wiegand then struck a concrete culvert. His car went airborne over a barbed wire fence before it nicked the side of a tree. His car overturned several times. Wiegand was ejected from his vehicle.
The accident is still under investigation.
