Murus Pumphrey

    Murus Dibrell “Dib or MD” Pumphrey III set sail on his eternal life Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013. He was born on Nov. 10, 1938 in Baytown to Murus Dibrell “Bud” Pumphrey Jr. and his wife Marguerite Marie who preceded him in death. He grew up in Baytown graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1957 where he was involved in the FFA. He joined the United States Coast Guard where he achieved the rank of Gunners Mate 3rd class and was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, Mobile, Ala., and Panama City, Fla.. He later attended the University of Houston. Over the years he enjoyed racing boats, raising cattle, fishing, waterfowl hunting, and spending time with his many grandchildren and great grandson. Through his work career his was employed at Marbon, Bayer, Witt Marine and Franklin Ford.
    He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ella Adele Floyd Pumphrey; sons, Murus D “Rusty” Pumphrey IV and wife, Denise and Frank Emmett Pumphrey and wife, Kristen; daughter, Mary Marguerite Gopon and husband, Steven; grandchildren, Katherine E. Pumphrey, Heather L. Hallman, Sarah A. Pumphrey, Brooke A. Hallman, W. Hunter Pumphrey, Gene G. Gopon, Haley N. Hallman, and Loren N. Pumphrey; great grandson, Bryson Dibrell Pumphrey; and his special caregiver, Brandi Gomez.
    His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the funeral home with Rev. John Newsome officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton.
    Serving as pallbearers will be Adam T. Ivy, Steven L. Powers, Michael R. Witt, Douglas C Edwards, Donald C Edwards II, and Santos C. Gomez Jr. Honorary pallbearers are H. Bealle Dawson III, Harry D. Record, Harrell Lynn Powers, Raymond Henderson, Richard Sobray, Robert L. Witt, and G. Andre Fischesser.
