Ganado ISD receives superior rating

Ganado Independent School District has received a superior achievement rating on the Texas Education Agency’s Financial Integrity Rating System, which is the highest rating.
The district scored a perfect 70 out of 70 on the FIRST.
Ganado ISD Board of Trustees held a public hearing for the FIRST rating for 2011-12. No one from the public commented on the superior rating.
The goal of the Financial Integrity Rating System is to ensure that school districts and open-enrollment charter schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and achieve improved performance in the management of their financial resources. The rating is based on 20 indicators.
GISD Superintendent Jeff Black gave an update on the new Data Management for Assessment and Curriculum (DMAC) Solutions program. A database that can be used to find information on student’s grades and attendance. Parents and teachers have assess to the program. Black said individuals can see individual grades and grades for each of the student’s assignments. It also indicates whether or not that student had turned in all of their assignments and tests.
DMAC also provides alerts to parents. Parents will receive specific alerts, such as if a student receives a grade below 80 or has an unexcused absence.
“The alerts is the biggest thing that parents can see,” he said. “For a parent, there is nothing better than to subscribe to alerts.”
DMAC is web-based so it is available at home or on mobile devices such as the iPad. Some of the searches may be broken down to a specific student, demographic, teacher or campus data.
Black said about a third of the students are associated with a DMAC account.
