Helping protect taxpayers

I want to update you on my latest efforts to help protect taxpayers and small businesses from government overreach and abuse.
In recent months, we've seen too many examples of our bloated federal bureaucracy making life harder for Americans and their families. All across Texas I've heard story after story of overzealous, federal regulators abusing their power. That's why we voted in the House today to pass a legislative package that includes the "Citizens Empowerment Act." This bill will allow the American people to better protect themselves or their business when a government official comes calling. More specifically, the Citizens Empowerment Act will:
• Create an affirmative right for individuals to record their meetings and telephone exchanges with federal agencies engaged in enforcement activities and call for government officials to notify individuals of this new right.
• Require agencies to include a notice of the right of individuals to record their interactions with federal officials both on their website and written communications provided to individuals.
The Citizens Empowerment Act does just that: empowers citizens by giving them the ability to fight back against a government that is clearly over stepping its boundaries.
