Joseph Lawrence (Larry) Shook, of Edna, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at the age of 77. He was born August 7, 1935, in Victoria, Texas, to the late Lewis and Anna Lawler Shook.
Larry’s first job was teaching at Edna ISD for 10 years. Then, he was a college art instructor at Victoria College for 26 years. He also was a member at St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Billie Jo Watson Shook of Edna; daughter, Sandra Suzanne Tomek and husband Michael of Bay City; son, Lawrence Watson “ Rusty “ Shook of Matagorda; grandchild, Patrick Andrew Tomek; and sister, Aileen Koudelka of Ganado.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marquerite Mc Guffee.
Larry will be in state from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 for those who wish to pay their respects. A Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna on Friday, July 5 followed by a funeral service with the Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens in Edna.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Zavesky, Travis Tomek, Brandon Tomek, Edwin Goad, A.J. Peters and Michael Hessong.
Honorary pallbearers are James Wilkinson, Wendell Hamilton and all former art students.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Texas at 605 E. Locust, Victoria TX, 77901 and also to Victoria College Foundation Art Scholarship at 2200 E. Red River, Victoria TX, 77901.
